Museum Visitors
Visitors to the museum so far are nearing 1000 in number and comments are
always positive. Many challenging questions are being asked about the
artifacts and visitors are receiving answers that educate them well.
Visiting hours are the same: Friday, Saturday, and Monday, 1 to 5 pm. Group
visits are by appointment only and arrangements can be made for individual
visits outside normal hours.
Our Annual Banquet Report
Our annual fundraising banquet took place on October 9th and had
about 110 in attendance. The food was excellent from Café Morocco
and, John Moore, our speaker, did a wonderful job. We received over $8,000
after expenses and that will enable us to purchase coins, a case, projection
system, and signs. We thank every one who made the banquet possible and
especially our donors who were so generous.
Some New Arrivals
Our latest Museum pieces to be added to our collection include a Roman
Period Evil Eye Reflector. This is a circular limestone wall hanging that
had a bronze center for reflection. The theory was that it would ward off
any evil spells that someone may cast when they entered your home. Every
Roman home should have one!
The other addition is a Roman Period Bronze oil lamp that is in excellent
condition. These pieces are rare because they were reserved only for the
wealthy and in times of war they were melted down to make war implements.
You need to stop by the Museum and see these special pieces that were made
possible by a donation from George Sparks in Albuquerque
Kid’s
Archaeology Club
The Kid’s Archaeology Club has been meeting at Woodland United Fellowship
every other Friday from 3:30 to 5:00. Due to the holiday activities and the
pastor being away at the Dig Site in Jordan, we
will not be meeting again until February.
Special Event
Dr. Steven Collins of Trinity Southwest University in Albuquerque, New
Mexico will be with us the weekend of November 13th- 15th.
For those who have some understanding of New Testament Greek, he will be
teaching a 10 hour course that will be filmed. He would appreciate an
audience, so I hope many of you will be able to help out. He will begin at
6:30 PM on Friday evening and end at 9 PM. On Saturday we will begin again
at 9 AM and end at 12 noon. We will return at 1 PM and conclude at 5:30 PM.
Dr. Collins will also be at Woodland United Fellowship on Sunday evening,
November 15th at 6 PM. He will give a detailed report on last
season's dig at Tall el-Hammam (Biblical Sodom). Everyone is invited to
attend and if you have an interest in archaeology you will want to be there.
Our
Mission
The primary reasons for beginning and maintaining the Woodland Museum of
Biblical Archaeology are: to preserve and display antiquities from the land
of the Bible – to promote the understanding and teaching of Biblical History
– to demonstrate the historical and geographical authenticity of the Bible -
and to create a learning environment for understanding God’s redemption of
the world through Jesus Christ.
