Museum Visitors

The Museum is open to the public only on Saturdays from 1-5 PM. Any other time that you wish to visit the Museum, please call and let us know. We will do our best to accommodate you whether it be day or evening. Many have called the day that they wanted to visit and we have always been able to meet their needs. The Museum has had good attendance this summer. We have averaged at least one group per week and many take advantage of dropping in on Saturdays.

Some New Arrivals

Our coin collection is now on display! We have a complete set of minted coins that were acceptable Temple coins during the Jewish Hasmonean Dynasty and a complete set of the Roman Procurators coins. The procurators were Governors of Judea that were appointed by Rome. Only six actually minted coins, but those six included Pilate, Felix, and Festus. These are all Biblical characters. You are invited to stop by and enjoy this special coin collection.

Special Events

SUMMER LECTURE

This Sunday evening (25th) at 6 PM, Dr. Gary Arbino will be lecturing at Woodland United Fellowship about his archaeological work at Gezer in Israel. Dr. Arbino is professor of Old Testament and Biblical Archaeology at Golden Gate Seminary in Mill valley, Ca. He has excavated at this important Biblical site for the last three years and he knows the site and its history very well. As friends of the museum, you are invited to attend and bring any friends with you. There is no charge for this event and no offering will be taken.

ANNUAL BANQUET

Our Annual Museum Banquet will be held on Friday, September 17th. We will have a silent auction at 6 PM and then serve dinner at 6:30. Our guest speaker is Dr. John Moore from Florida and he will be speaking about the recent excavation at the Palace of David in Jerusalem. Dinner will be catered by Café Morocco in Sacramento and will feature authentic Middle Eastern cuisine. There is no charge for this event but we will be receiving donations at the end of the evening. This is our main fundraiser for the year and enables us to purchase more antiquities and make improvements at our Museum. You need to make reservations for the event and you can do so by responding to this email. This is not an event for young children, so you will need to make other arrangements for them.

SILENT AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED

We depend on you to provide our Silent Auction items for others to bid on. If you have homemade items, homemade food, antiques, services, gift baskets, gift certificates, etc., that you can donate, please respond to this email and we will be grateful. These donations are tax deductible.

FALL LECTURE

We are pleased to announce that our Museum Fall Lecture will be from Dr. John Moore. He will speak at our banquet on Friday evening and then lecture on Saturday, September 18th at 10 AM – 12 noon and continue again from 2 PM to 4 PM. His topic this year is “The Bad Boys of the Bible” and will focus on the Herod family. Again, there is no charge for this event.

Tall el-Hammam Dig Project

We have already been able to make several presentations concerning our work at what we consider to be Biblical Sodom. If your organization or church would like a presentation, please call Pastor Carl at 530-662-2773. Also, if you would like to join the Dig Team in December and January, 2010/2011, you can call for more information. Pastor Carl plans to be at the dig from December 27th through January 27th. It is important that you make arrangements now, as timing is becoming critical.

Our Mission

The primary reasons for beginning and maintaining the Woodland Museum of Biblical Archaeology are: to preserve and display antiquities from the land of the Bible – to promote the understanding and teaching of Biblical History – to demonstrate the historical and geographical authenticity of the Bible - and to create a learning environment for understanding God’s redemption of the world through Jesus Christ.
